ABOUT ME
Welcome to my website!

I’m Ruben, a passionate mycologist from Belgium, currently affiliated with the Research Group Mycology at Ghent University. From a young age, I’ve been captivated by the wonders of nature, leading me to pursue a path in biology. My interest in science was my main motivation to study Science Mathematics in secondary school. My curiosity about the intricate relationships within ecosystems and the beauty of plants and animals fueled my decision to study biology at university.

During my second year Bachelor, I discovered my true passion—mushrooms and fungi. The diversity, ecology, and taxonomy of these extraordinary organisms are not just subjects of study but a lifelong fascination.

In my Master’s program I chose to the major: Global Change Ecology, minor: Research and specialised myself in Mycology. This journey equipped me with a strong foundation in biology, ecology, programming, advanced statistics, and science communication.

My role as a teaching assistant further ignited my passion for education, where I found fulfillment in sharing knowledge and mentoring the next generation of scientists.

Thank you for visiting my website—I hope you find it insightful.

Best regards,
Ruben
